The disAbility Resource Center employs and serves individuals with all disabilities. We serve New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, Onslow, and Columbus county and provide services that promote diversity inclusion.
Our goal is to assist individuals with disabilities to live their best life! The dRC is a Center for Independent Living (CIL). Independent living is not defined in terms of living on one’s own, being employed, or having an active social life. These are aspects of living independently. Independent living has to do with self-determination. It is having the right and the opportunity to pursue a course of action. And it is having the freedom to fail and to learn from own failures, just as other people do.
Our Mission
The mission of the disAbility Resource Center (dRC) is to empower persons with disabilities to become and maintain their independence in their communities. The disAbility Resource Center provides services to people of all ages with all types of disabilities and those who support them.
Consumer choice, autonomy and control define the Independent Living
Movement.
The independent living philosophy holds that individuals with disabilities have the right to live with dignity and with appropriate support in their own homes, fully participate in their communities, and to control and make decisions about their lives.”
